What to do first
If a storm has just come through, the order matters.
- Stay off the roof. Wet tile and loose shingles are dangerous, and no photo is worth a fall. Look from the ground, and from inside the attic if you can get there safely.
- Stop the water. Move furniture, put down buckets, and if water is coming in, call us so we can get a temporary cover on the roof. Our emergency roof repair page explains what to do in the meantime.
- Photograph everything. Debris in the yard, shingles or tile on the ground, water stains on ceilings, the date and the time. Phone photos are fine. Don’t throw anything away yet.
- Report it to your insurance company. Get a claim number. Your policy and your insurer set the process from here, and we work inside that process, not around it.
- Call us. We’ll inspect, document, and give you a clear picture of what the roof needs before anyone decides anything.
What we do
- A free inspection. We get on the roof and look at all of it, not just the slope facing the street: lifted shingles, cracked or displaced tile, torn underlayment, bent flashing, dented vents, and the damage you can’t see from the ground. See roof inspections for what a full inspection covers.
- Photos and a written scope. Every problem we find is photographed and written up as a specific scope of work: what’s damaged, where, and what it takes to put it right. This is the document your adjuster works from, so it has to be clear and accurate.
- We meet the adjuster on site. When the adjuster comes out, we walk the roof with them, point out what we found, and answer questions. Two sets of eyes on the roof keep the conversation about what’s actually up there.
- We explain what’s storm damage and what isn’t. Storm damage and ordinary wear are treated differently by insurers. We’ll tell you which one you have, in plain language, before the claim goes anywhere.
- We do the work. Once the claim is settled, the same crew that inspected the roof repairs or replaces it. Read about how a roof repair or a roof replacement goes with us.
What we don’t do
We’re roofers. We are not public adjusters and we are not lawyers, and we don’t pretend to be either. We won’t tell you what your policy covers, because that’s between you and your insurer. We don’t promise what the insurer will approve.
And we don’t inflate claims. Adding damage that isn’t there, or calling wear a storm event, is dishonest, and it puts your claim and your roof at risk. If a roof has a few broken tiles and nothing else, our scope says a few broken tiles. If your situation calls for a public adjuster or an attorney, we’ll tell you, and you choose your own.
Storm damage or wear?
This is the question most claims turn on, and it’s where experience matters. Wind damage has a look: shingles creased along the line where they lifted, tile displaced in a pattern that follows the wind, flashing peeled back from a seam. Hail has its own pattern. Wear looks different: granule loss across a whole slope, tile cracked with age, sealant dried out and split, fasteners backed out over years.
A roof can have both at once, and an honest scope separates them. Our crew has worked together for more than 30 years, and reading a roof after a storm is the part of this job that experience counts most for.
Repairs at any height
Much of the storm work on the coast is tile, often on homes well above the ground. In Ocean Hammock we replaced 1,300 square feet of tile 52 feet up, along with new fascia and fascia metal around the whole home, all worked from a driveway barely wide enough for the lift. On another Ocean Hammock home we replaced broken tile and built a new chimney 56 feet above ground, finished to match the home’s original design. High, tight, and coastal is normal for us.
